The waste-to-energy plant soon under construction in the Korvenmäki area of Salo will make use of the non-recyclable waste of Finnish households by turning it into local energy for the residents and businesses of Salo.

The work in Salo is set begin in January 2019. The aim is for the waste-to-energy plant to use waste as fuel for the first time in January 2021 and be a complete and tested plant producing district heat and electricity by June 2021. The project will be carried out as a project management contract.

“This project represents the core of Fira’s competence area. Personally, I’m particularly happy to have the chance to work with the client’s project personnel again,” says Ari Anttilainen, Category Manager for Fira Oy’s Commercial Construction services.

The plant’s construction costs total approximately EUR 112 million. The contract was put out for competition in the form of negotiation procedures pursuant to the Specialised Sectors’ Procurement Act in four separate procurement packages.

“The suppliers are good and experienced. We’re very happy with the results of the tendering process,” says Petri Onikki, Lounavoima’s Managing Director.

Lounavoima Oy is a regional company converting waste to energy. It is owned by Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy and Salon Kaukolämpö Oy.
